The Erie Moon Mammoths
In 2025, comedian John Oliver chose the Erie SeaWolves to be the subject of a rebrand courtesy of his show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, which airs on HBO. The show created the Moon Mammoths, an alternate identity born from a 1991 woolly mammoth fossil discovery by Erie resident George Moon. The Moon Mammoths debuted on July 19 against Double-A Chesapeake, and I was tasked with coordinating all media relations and broadcasting efforts for that game. In front of a record-breaking crowd at UPMC Park, John Oliver joined me for the fifth inning. Part of my interview with him is linked here.
